About Hepatitis B
ü
Hepatitis B (HBV) is a serious infection of the liver and the
leading cause of liver cancer, killing one million people every
year due to the silent-killer infection and its complications.
Asian and Pacific Islanders (API) account for over half of 1.3
million chronic hepatitis B cases and half of the deaths
resulting from hepatitis B in the United States.
ü
Hepatitis B is often transmitted at birth and ten times more
common than HIV. One in ten Asian and Pacific Islanders are
chronically infected with hepatitis B and two out of three are
unaware that they are infected because there are often no
symptoms.
