Holiday Donation Drive for Abused Women and
Children
SAN JOSE, CA – San Jose, CA – Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI)’s Domestic Violence Program, Asian Women’s Home, is holding a community donation drive for the upcoming holiday season. All donations are tax deductible and are being accepted now through Wednesday, December 12, 2007.
The donation drive will be an opportunity for community members to share the holiday spirit with those less fortunate. The gifts received from the drive will go to abused women and children, the primary victims of domestic violence, and will contribute to a joyous holiday experience for their families; an experience they might not typically enjoy, due to financial barriers or the instability of their situations.
All brand new, unwrapped donations are welcomed. The most valued items are gift certificates to department stores, shoe stores, bookstores, movie theaters, and supermarkets. These gift certificates, regardless of amount, meet different individual needs of women and children best at times of emergency, and are extremely appreciated. Gift certificates also give women opportunities for family outings with their children to experience the holiday spirit.
Ideal gifts for women include personal care gift sets, personal journals, travel luggage, kits of personal hygiene items, and shoes. Infants & children could greatly benefit from clothing, reading and activity books as well as arts & crafts and other activity sets. Gift certificates, sports equipment, and electronic equipment are items that teenagers will appreciate. A more extensive wish list is available at

Explaining the purpose of the drive, Teresa Yu, Domestic Violence Program Manager at AACI, said “While our clients benefit from donations received throughout the year, they especially appreciate receiving gifts during the holiday season. The women and children we serve experience tremendous challenges everyday and their courage and resolve is unparalleled. The gifts the families receive from the donation drive will help lift their spirits and give comfort during a difficult time."
