Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI) Holds 34th Annual Banquet
(San Jose, CA) – Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI) will be holding its 34th Annual Banquet & Community Star Awards at the downtown San Jose Marriott Hotel on Friday, May 18, 2007, at 6:00 P.M. Tickets to this event are $150 each, and proceeds support AACI’s array of programs and services. Over 500 individuals are expected to attend.
Established in 1973, AACI is the largest community-based organization focused on the health, mental health, and well-being of Asian Americans in Santa Clara County. Based in San Jose, AACI provides multilingual services to over 9,000 individuals each year.
Each year at the banquet, AACI presents Community Star Awards to exceptional heroes who embody leadership through their work with the Asian American community. This year’s awardees are:
- Nalini Shekar, Director of Advocacy, Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence
- Dr. Samuel So, the Asian Liver Center at Stanford University
- San Jose Japanese Community Youth Service
AACI will also present the Gordon N. Chan Leadership Award to Lillian Gong-Guy and Gerrye Wong, two long-time community activists who, among other activities, founded the Chinese Historical and Cultural Project.
